A Message from 2023 NNWLA President Jenna Garcia
Happy New Year! As we roll into 2023 and I start my tenure as President of this amazing organization, I cannot help but reflect on the impact that this organization has had on me and the importance it has played in my life and legal career. I first joined the board of the Northern Nevada Women Lawyers Association in 2017, and I have had the privilege of serving on the board ever since. I have seen the evolution of NNWLA as over the past few years we dealt with the Covid pandemic and had to adjust to make sure we could continue to provide services to our members even if we couldn’t meet in person. I believe offering some CLE via Zoom has been a great benefit to our members and we intend to keep doing that. On the other hand, it was such a joy to bring back our annual Christmas party in 2022 and gather together again. I very much look forward to continuing our in-person events going forward.
Most importantly, when I reflect on this organization I think about the amazing friendships and relationships I have made. I have met so many amazing strong women. These women are strong, smart and impressive lawyers, but they are also mothers, friends, and mentors to others. Being surrounded by these women has bolstered me, strengthened me and shown me the importance of community. I want to spend 2023 celebrating these relationships and these amazing women. In that vein we have some exciting events planned including a CLE in February to explore the upcoming legislation session and how we as women can use our voice to effect change, a social to celebrate the history of NNWLA in March, and the culmination of this celebration will be the return of the Outstanding Women Lawyer’s Award dinner in November.
Our first CLE this year will be free on Zoom on January 18 and will be taught by the incomparable Margaret Crowley. Margaret is an exceptional mediator, and in this CLE she will discuss the most effective ways to communicate with our clients and other attorneys. I hope to see you all there and I look forward to seeing you at our events this year as we celebrate this amazing community of women we are so lucky to be apart of.
