The attorney chosen for this position will have superior legal research, writing, and advocacy skills, fully developed public speaking ability, and knowledge of both state and federal court procedures. Candidates must have excellent communication, time management, and interpersonal skills. KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: This position requires knowledge of substantive laws and regulations in the state classified and unclassified personnel system (NRS/NAC 281, 284 and 289), FMLA, Title VII and ADA; administrative law (NRS 233B); constitutional law; powers and duties of the State Attorney General; legislative process; State and federal civil and appellate rules of procedure and rules of evidence; computer applications, particularly as related to the performance of legal research and brief writing; and rules of ethics in the practice of law.

- Fiscal Management: Develops the annual budget and oversees/manages RMIC’s finances; works with staff and other relevant entities to prepare quarterly financial reports for the Board; facilitates the annual audit; implements appropriate accounting policies and procedures; reviews and analyzes monthly financial reports and bank reconciliations; oversees facilities; and prepares Annua Report to the Innocence Network.
- Personnel Management: Effective staff management, including establishing and revising positions to meet changing needs; collaborating with staff to set program priorities; oversees recruitment, employment, and release of office personnel, including paid staff and volunteers; ensures sound human resource practices are in place for all personnel; maintains office policies and procedures and ensures staff and Board compliance; ensures maintenance of official records and documents; maintains proper wage and salary management, benefits, and accounting for staff time; and ensures efficient use of office equipment and IT.
- Responsible for establishment and executive of development strategy for RMIC; in conjunction with staff and Board, establishes and achieves development goals for donated and earned income; oversees events and individual giving, including working with development director, fundraisers, or fundraising consultants to achieve these goals.
- Responsible, in conjunction with staff and development director, fundraisers, or fundraising consultants, for effective identification of grant opportunities; oversees all grant applications and grants management.
- Maintains and enhances existing donor relationships, identifies and develops new funding sources in conjunction with development director, fundraisers, or fundraising consultants.
- Chief Staff Liaison to the Board in all RMIC matters; works collaboratively with the Board of Directors and its committees to develop and implement strategic direction of the organization; keeps Board fully informed of RMIC’s operations and condition.
- Promotes active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas of RMIC’s work.
- Maintains a working knowledge of significant developments in the field of wrongful convictions, including relevant legal and scientific developments and ensuring that legal staff is provided such information.
- Responsible for overseeing and arranging the training and development of all staff attorneys, investigators, and/or paralegals to provide high-quality legal services.
- Ensure overall quality of legal work by editing and reviewing all filings in RMIC cases.
- Assign and monitor caseloads and case progress.
- Collaborate with Case Oversight Committee and other relevant stakeholders or partners on case selection.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong interest in innocence issues and working to prevent wrongful convictions.
- At least five years of management experience in a professional setting.
- J.D. required
- At least five years of litigation experience, civil or criminal.
- Experience with and understanding of budgeting and fiscal management.
- Understanding of non-profit organizations or experience in working with non-profit Boards of Directors.
- Experience or familiarity with the legal community in Utah preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to work as a team player while both leading the team and the organization.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks while maintaining deadlines.
- Understanding of common computer applications, such as Microsoft Office and its applications.
- Demonstrated ability to problem-solve, make independent decisions, and to handle emergencies.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.

The Neighborhood Legal Access Program (“NLAP”) is a joint venture between the five legal aid organizations in Nevada and the Nevada Access to Justice Commission. Nevada Legal Services is serving as the fiscal umbrella and will be paying the Project Manager. This position will be an independent contractor and will be responsible for paying their own taxes.
The NLAP will bring access to legal assistance to local public libraries. The Project Manager will be responsible for ensuring that all the goals and objectives of the project are completed within the grant period; including but not limited to: researching currently available Nevada legal resources that are online, working with the Committee that created the project to create new legal resources that may be needed, researching the types of kiosk equipment available on the market, ordering the kiosks to be placed in public libraries, meeting with the seven local libraries chosen for the first phase of the project. Travel to rural communities in Nevada will be required.
