Legislative Luncheon: Important Issues from the 2017 Session Please join us on Tuesday, June 27th at noon at Silver Peak (located at 135 N. Sierra St.) for a luncheon featuring three northern Nevada legislators including Assemblywoman Amber Joiner (District 24), Senator Heidi Gansert (District 15), and Assemblywoman Jill Tolles (District 25). We are fortunate to have legislators available to speak with us about the important changes to Nevada law following this legislative session. Please send any questions for the speakers to [email protected] by June 19th. This is sure to be a great event for all practitioners. 1.0 hour of CLE credit is pending. Tickets are available using the Paypal link on our Events page until June 19th at 5 p.m. Advanced registration is highly recommended. The luncheon will include a Mexican inspired lunch buffet. Meet Our Speakers for the June Event Assemblywoman Amber Joiner (District 24) Assemblywoman Joiner was raised in Reno, Nevada. She attended McQueen High School and the University of Nevada, Reno. She was first appointed to the Nevada Assembly in 2015. This year, she is the Vice Chair of the Education and Heath and Human Service Session Committees. She is also on the Government Affairs Session Committee. When she is not in the legislature, she is a University Adjunct Professor. Senator Heidi Gansert (District 15) Senator Gansert is also from Reno, Nevada. She attended Santa Clara University and obtained her MBA from University of Nevada, Reno. She has received several awards for her work at a legislature, including receiving Freshman Legislator of the year in 2005 from the Las Vegas Review Journal and the Police Officer's Research Association. Assemblywoman Jill Tolles (District 25) Assemblywoman Tolles received her B.A. and M.A from the University of Nevada, Reno. She was first elected to the Assembly November 2016. She is currently on the Commerce and Labor, Corrections, Parole and Probation, Education, and Judiciary Session Committees. She is also a small business owner and Adjunct Professor and UNR and the National Judicial College. Thank You For Joining Us For Our March Event At The Reno Aces! We all had a wonderful time watching the Reno Aces destroy the New Orleans Babycakes during our May social event. Even though it was a very cold May evening, everyone had a great time watching the game and eating the delicious food. Thank you again to everyone who attended the event. August Social Event NNWLA will take July off from hosting events and there will not be a scheduled NNWLA event. More information about our next event will be forthcoming. We will be posting more information on our website soon. Happy Father's Day NNWLA would like to wish a happy Father's Day to all of our members and friends. Tour de Nez The professional bicycle race will be coming back to Reno on Saturday, June 10, 2017. This is a great free event with a lot of opportunities to watch the professional cyclists in downtown Reno. The event lasts all day, beginning at 7:30 a.m. For more information about their event, please visit their webpage: https://tourdenez.com/. Nevada State Fair The Nevada State Fair returns to the Mills Park in Carson City on Thursday, June 8 through Sunday, June 11, 2017. The Fair features Rendezvous, Civil War re-enactments, western themed gunfights, horseback cavalry shows, carnival rides, and much more. This is the longest running event in Nevada's history. Additional information on the Fair can be found at www.nevadastatefair.org/. The Ridge House Freedom Run On July 1st at 8:00 a.m., the Ridge House is hosting their 4th Annual Ridge House Freedom Run. This is a fundraiser to support Veteran's Programs at the Ridge House, which is a local non-profit behavioral healthcare agency. There are three different distances for you to run or walk: 10K; 5K; and, a 1K Fun Walk. More information can be found on their website: http://www.ridgehouse.org/about/freedom-run-2017/.
