MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT STEPHANIE FUNKA Word From Our 2021 President Stephanie K. Funk As we near summer, it's hard to comprehend how time has been moving so fast! In looking back at the first half of the year, it is easy to see that much has been accomplished. In looking forward to the second half of the year, it is even easier to see that there is much to look forward to. In February, NNWLA was delighted to host "It's Not Me, It’s Them" an ethics CLE focusing on blind spots in the criminal and juvenile justice system. Our speakers Kelley R. Jones and Kristin Henning knocked it out of the park, and many attendees provided feedback that it was one of the best CLE's they had EVER attended. If you even get another chance to hear them speak, I highly recommend it. All registration fees went towards NNWLA's scholarship with the University of Nevada, Reno to promote equality and reduce the gender gap in the legal profession. In total, $1,125 was raised! In May, NNWLA collaborated with the Washoe County Law Library for Law Day. Through this program, NNWLA was able to provide volunteer legal services to our community in the areas of family, civil, probate, landlord/tenant and criminal record sealing. NNWLA had 13 volunteers (and many more who were on standby and willing to help if needed) who met with 70 participants. Nearly 25 hours of service on a Saturday morning! This year's event was held via Zoom, and it is amazing to see what we can accomplish with technology. In looking ahead, we are thrilled to be hosting our first in person event this month. Further details are in this blog, but we hope you can join us for happy hour at Prost on May 20, 2021 at 5:30 p.m. Also, save the date for NNWLA's summer garden party, August 25, 2021, a membership appreciation event graciously hosted by our own Ann Morgan. Finally, NNWLA would like to congratulate Ann Morgan as she prepares to be sworn in as President of the State Bar of Nevada. NNWLA thanks you Ann for your guidance and mentorship throughout the years. We hope to see many NNWLA members at the Annual Bar Conference, June 17-19, 2021 in San Diego. UPCOMING EVENTSSave the date for NNWLA's annual Garden Party, which will be on August 25, 2021, time TBA. More information will come in the next newsletters. We can't wait to see you all there!
