I hope each of you had a wonderful holiday season and a Happy New Year! 2017 was a great year for NNWLA. It was mixed with fun social events, informative CLEs, and wonderful volunteer opportunities. I want to thank our 2017 president Laury Macauley for her leadership and dedication to NNWLA. I also want to think our speakers and dedicated members who helped make the 2017 events so successful. The new NNWLA board has been hard at work to make 2018 another great year. We are kicking the year off with a Back on Track Spin Class and Social event at Full Pedal North in January 18th. This will be a fun class for veteran spinners, as well as beginners. To sign up please go to the event page on our website. We welcome non-lawyer friends and spouses at this event and have provided a special pricing option for a member and a guest. Please keep an eye out for other social events this year, including, our family night at the Reno Aces in the summer, as well as our popular Holiday Party in December. As always, we will offer a number of luncheon CLE programs this year. You will not want to miss our first one, which will be on February 27th. NNWLA will host a luncheon forum with Judge Valerie Cooke, Boyd Professor Ann McGinley, Mary Dugan, and Ann Morgan to discuss different aspects of sexual harassment in the workplace in light of the recent publicity on the subject. This is sure to be an fascinating discussion with a distinguished panel of women. We are hoping to get this event approved for an ethics CLE credit. Please check our event page for registration information. If you cannot attend on February 27th, do not worry. NNWLA will offer CLEs on other topics throughout the year, including, trial practice, legal writing, and the energy initiative. We will also co-sponsor an event in September with the Washoe County Bar Association for our members to get to know Judge Kathleen M. Drakulich. Finally, and most importantly, NNWLA will continue our tradition of providing volunteer opportunities for causes that benefit our local community. In May, we will seek volunteers to staff a “Lawyer in the Library” night in honor of Law Day, and, in December, we will donate our time and money to our annual Veterans Memorial Elementary School Shopping event to ensure that some of the less fortunate children in our community have warm winter clothes. I have a lot of experience when it comes to consoling women. Well, it is because I have a lot of friends that had their hearts broken by men. It is not something that I take pride in, I do not want my friends to have heart breaks. In fact, I just want my friends to experience true love and happiness. I do not really know how that works, simply because I have yet to experience it myself, but I know it will be amazing.
